Willow
Age: 10 months Sex: Female Colors: Blue/Rust Ears/Tail: Natural/docked Location: Columbia, TN Adoption Fee: $450 Miss Willow, is a very shy & timid girl. She was not socialized and was neglected the first 7 months of her life so everything about being a normal family dog is foreign to her and new. She takes a LONG time to adjust to new surroundings and people, in particular men. She responds to children with the same shy & timid nature as she does adults. Sometimes the slightest new noise will spook her and send her running into another room. With that said, she is super sweet. She gets along perfectly with other dogs and loves to go outside. This is where you see her fun and carefree side. She ok with cats but needs more exposure to them to learn boundaries (she is still very pup like with them). She is potty trained (but in fear may have an accident). She loves chew toys! If you provide her with a crate that she can use to feel safe and a designated dog bed that she can use in the family room, she will be content while around you until she gets accustomed to her new home and routine. Once she learns your “routine”, she does much better inside the home. It took her approx. 3 weeks to grasp mine, but once she got it, it has really helped her build more confidence. She does decent on a leash, is not afraid of cars as they go by which helps. But will need practice to perfect this skill. Willow struggles to eat a good meal. Best I can figure this is due to her not having much early on and possibly having to rush/fight for what little she got. She tends to dash to her food dish, grab a mouthful and run away. We have been working on this a lot. She is getting better but will only finish her entire bowl IF I am right with her and constantly redirecting her to it. She also won’t eat near my own dogs. Due to her issues with eating – she has been slow to put on weight. She won’t eat dry kibble alone in any good “portion” to maintain her weight, so I have been adding in rice and wet dog food to make it more appealing to her (which has worked to help her put on a little weight). She will require a VERY patient adopter. Especially if there is a guy living in the home. She is NOT a typical puppy that runs up to you in excitement and constantly wants affection. She will take time to build trust with her new adopter. Since September, I am the only person that she has felt comfortable enough to approach on her own for pets and affection. But she also has known me the longest since coming into rescue. But even with this trust built, sometimes I unintentionally still spook her by moving too suddenly or being loud unexpectedly. With all this said, she has shown a considerable amount of progress since coming into rescue and I have no doubt with time and the right adopter she will become a confident Doberman and a great family pet. And it doesn’t hurt that she is just plain ADORABLE. Willow’s adoption fee is $450. She is currently located in Middle TN and adopter must be willing to travel to her for a meet & greet. She is also unspayed and it will be a condition of the adoption agreement that she get spayed (at adopter’s expense) between 1-2 years of age (sending proof to VSDR of the surgery afterwards). #vsdrwillow24 #vsdrfl6 *Since we are 100% volunteer based, we ask for a $25 application fee to determine if the adopter is seriously interested in going through with an adoption.
